This is a gigantic perfecto, for its size and length, it is what the Cubans call a diadema, named for royal scepter, the staff carried only by the king. This cigar is just that, a massive and utterly regal cigar. For those who smoke robustos, this cigar will feel like it takes a year to smoke, however it will be a year well spent. Cigars of this size are very hard to roll, if they are parejos (conventional straight-sided cigars) yet this is an expertly rolled perfecto (which are much more difficult to roll than parejos) of the shape that is the most difficult to roll?yet it contains exceptional quality tobaccos that are rolled at an even higher standard of quality. The quality of construction of this cigar is the top of the Ashton line, giving this cigar all-around good construction, the bunch of the cigar is firm, so much so that one might poke out someone?s eye with the cigar. Yet the construction allows the draw to be right?not to easy, nor firm. The cigar smokes slowly, with an even white ash that goes well with the silky, golden wrapper that was expertly grown in the shade of Connecticut, a wrapper that rivals anything grown in that state. The smoke is mild, pleasant, and amenable and is unobtrusive, as the aroma will not disturb others nearby the cigar. It starts with a mild herbal note mixed with light, yet sweet tobacco flavors, that develops with a creamy texture to a complex array of flavors of nuts, thick and rich cream, and sweet bread which has been lightly toasted. It never becomes harsh or hot, leaving a pleasant woody finish, making for an excellent 2 to 3 hour cigar. Measure 9 x 52
